In one of my previous post i talked about types of soap. One of the types of soap i talked about in that post is the glycerin soap which is very good for the skin.
There are different methods used in making homenade soap but in this post i will be talking about the melt and pour method of making homemade glycerin soap.
I was in my first year in the university when i was first introduced to the art of making homemade products and over the years i have made several homemade products for personal and commercial use.
Although i have heard and read about the melt and pour method, i have not tried it myself. Recently i decided to give it a try to know how the method works. After trying it, i found it to be one of the easiest method used to make glycerin soap. Although this method looks easy for me, It can be a bit confusing for a newbie so we will break it into three different post for your easy understanding. I will talk about two types of glycerin soap that can be made from this method and we will continue in the next post.
Before you begin soap making process always ensure safety measure are in place and be as careful as possible. Soap can be harmful expecially the boiling process.
It is a known fact that most homemade soap are made from glycerin. The problem with most soap sold in stores is that they have little or no glycerin content. In the post where i talked about the types of soap, i said the reason why most soap sold in stores do not have glycerin is because it can be sold seperately which is what some companies prefer to do. Another reason why soap sold in store have little or no glycerin content is because the glycerin have been processed out. This is one of many reason why i make my own soap and a lot of other homemade products. Making your own soap gives you the chance to be creative and you get to use the kind of soap you desire which is rich in glycerin.
If you haven't read my previous post soaps and the different types of soap, glycerin moisturize your skin and makes it soft but also look great.
Before starting the melt and pour method, you need to get your soaps which you will melt and pour. Most soap making supplier or online soap stores have large sizes of clear soap of different sizes. Bear in mind that prices are influenced by different conditions like distance, the type and size you want and also depending on the store or supplier you chose to patronize.
Having decided on the store you want to buy your blocks of soap, let me show you the different types of melt and pour soap you need to make your homemade glycerine soap.
The first one we will be looking at is the Transparent glycerin soap:
Like the name, this type of soap is clear and changing the color of clear glycerine soap are easier compared to other types. With the clear glycerin soap you can add any color and fragrance of your choice. It is mostly gotten from vegetables and one of my prefered choice when using the melt and pour method for making glycerin soap.
If you would like to make soaps with objects inside and different layers, the clear glycerin soap will do that perfectly.
The amazing thing about the clear glycerin soaps used in the melt and pour method is that it is as good as the ones you will buy from stores. In addition it is fun and exciting i bet your kids will love it.
The second one we will be looking at is the Olive Oil Soap:
The Olive oil soap is slightly similar to the Clear Glycerin soap from the appearance it can be describe as semi transparent that means it is not very clear. It normally have slight dull color.
The type of soap with the most closely relatated features when compared to the olive oil soap is the hemp glycerin soap. The only difference between the two is that the hemp is used in the hemp glycerin soap while olive oil is used for the olive oil soap.
To buy the clear glycerin soap and other types is not as difficult as when buying the olive oil soap. Make sure the olive oil you buy is a cold pressed olive oil with good amount of fatty accids, essential vitamins and minerals and a resonable percentage of glycerin this is very important if you want to make good quality glycerine soap.
In our next post we will look at the other types of melt and pour soap to make good quality soap. We will be looking at Hemp Glycerin soap and Goat milk glucerin soap (another very good type of glycerin soap i lnpw you will love it). I will also tell you the ingredients and equipment used in melt and pour method of making soap. You will learn how and when to add fragrance and color to give your soap a very fine color and fragrance.
